Merchant Fined for Price Violation
A Colombo merchant was fined Rs. 200,000 by the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court for selling Samba rice above the maximum retail price. The case was initiated following a raid by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
Looks like someone tried to rice and shine with an overpriced samba scheme, but the Consumer Affairs Authority said, "Not today, price gouger!" Two hundred grand later, I bet that merchant is thinking twice about playing economic hot potato with rice prices.
