Enforced Disappearances Investigation
Discussions about historical disappearances in Sri Lanka, particularly during the late 1980s and during the civil conflict. Posts highlight government's limited progress in documenting and investigating these cases.
So the army's investigating the army's disappearances? That's like asking a fox to do a headcount of missing chickens - what could possibly go wrong? Talk about the most hilariously circular investigation since "we've investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing"!
30k complaints made to #lka government of disappearance in late 80's ALONE in #srilanka but after a decade the disappearance body .@ompsrilanka has only managed to list 10k names! Never mind the disappearance went on for decades after that. 🫥 https://t.co/OoUTONz6zG

In 2003 .@HRCSL wrote to the #lka army 4 info on suspects re #Jaffna disappearance. They got an "evasive & unrelated" reply from a Brig. Mohanthi Peiris. In 2017 she was appointed to @ompsrilanka as a commissioner 2 investigate disappearance by - guess who - the army! https://t.co/OrXoAdcPsR
