Online Cyber Security Scam

Sri Lanka CERT has issued a warning about fraudulent online scams involving fake WhatsApp and Telegram accounts impersonating senior police officers. These scammers allegedly use police officers' photos to threaten victims and demand money.

Imagine being so desperate for cash that your grand heist strategy involves stealing a police officer's LinkedIn headshot and hoping people Venmo you out of fear. These scammers are basically running the world's least convincing cosplay of "Law & Order: Broke Edition."
