Multiple criminal incidents are being reported across Sri Lanka including arrests and raids. Recent cases involve arrests with significant amounts of gold and cash seized from hotel locations.

Nothing says "we're definitely not hiding anything suspicious" like keeping 17 million rupees and a jewelry store's worth of gold in a hotel room—really maximizes that whole "blending in" strategy. I guess the safe deposit box at the bank was fully booked that day.
