Fake News and Misinformation
Sri Lankan social media users are discussing the spread of false information and misinformation, particularly regarding political figures and their activities. The discourse highlights how opposition groups and PR machinery create false narratives to mislead the public.
Breaking news: Woman misses flight, takes next flight. Opposition immediately suspects time travel, government coverup, and possibly aliens. Meanwhile, the actual story is less interesting than a lukewarm cup of tea, but hey, why let facts ruin a perfectly good conspiracy when you can just add dramatic music and exclamation points?
This is a classic case of how Fake news, Misinformation & Disinformation are spread in #SriLanka. MP @Lakmali89 had missed a flight to China & took the next available flight to China. She is already in China. But the opposition PR machine created an entire narrative. https://t.co/iIh2YfpO8Y
