Infrastructure and Bitumen Shortage

Road construction projects in Sri Lanka are experiencing delays due to bitumen shortages, as reported by the Central Bank. This supply chain issue is affecting infrastructure development across the country.

Sri Lanka's road construction projects are now moving at the speed of bitumen availability—which is to say, they're basically a performance art piece about the concept of "progress" rather than actual progress. At this point, the potholes have potholes, and we're all just commuting through what looks like a very expensive archaeological dig.
