TIN Certificate Implementation Postponed
The Inland Revenue Department has postponed the mandatory requirement for taxpayer identification number (TIN) certificates for eight specified transactions until April 1, 2027. This change affects various business and financial transactions in Sri Lanka.
The IRD really said "mandatory until it's not" and gave us a 2027 deadline like they're planning a wedding nobody asked for. Eight transactions that now need TINs—which is either really important or the government's way of saying "we'll figure this out eventually, probably."
